Get to Know Max Bossman Photographer

max bossman photographer Two of my great passions in life are travel and photography. I believe that the first broadens one's view of the world and photography lets capture its beauty and diversity.

  1. Max, how long have you been a photographer?

For quite a while now. I remember I was around 12 y.o. when my dad gave me his camera to take some photos. It was a top notch Russian camera Zenith with excellent glass. In fact I still have it in my collection of various cameras. I just went outside and started taking pictures of landscapes, my friends and pretty much anything that caught my eye.

  1. Talking about cameras, are you a Canon or Nikon guy?

I am a Nikon guy :) All of my cameras and glass are Nikon including my old precious F3. These days I shoot mostly digital and the one that I use more often is D3s.

  1. Do you have a photography education?

No, I don't. I'm a self-taught photographer. Like I said I started in my teens, now that I have quite an extensive experience I feel comfortable calling myself a photographer. I believe the more you do something the better you get at it. Those who follow a template and never take a chance to experiment, make mistakes and learn from them rarely deliver a good concept. One can get an expensive equipment or a prestigious art education, but it's impossible to buy an original idea or sense of style and composure. Either you have it or you don't, here is one example: How to turn a good photo into a disaster. Having said that, I have a huge respect to photographers who got their fine arts degree in photography and turned their dream into reality.

  1. You have a wide array of photography in your portfolio, do you have one favorite type?

It's hard to say. I absolutely agree that specializing in one type of photography is important, it's also important to train an eye, learn new techniques and get yourself "unstuck" by photographing different subjects and try something new. I dedicate more time for Model Photography, but I also love doing Product and Commercial Photography incorporating my passion for advertising and layout design. Occasionally I get Wedding and Family photography requests.

  1. Tell me a little more about yourself

Well, where do I start? I'm Russian, made the US my home in 2001. I've traveled the world extensively, Africa is one of my favorite places to go. I have a M.S. in Math and IT; passionate about languages, sacred geometry, psychology, marketing, fashion and of course photography. I keep myself busy by splitting time between being a photographer and managing my company Boston Media Lab where we build websites and promote companies online. I try exercising as much as I can by swimming, working out, biking and skiing.
